In Episode 5, Sam Mukwa Kloestra is interviewed. Same was on an incredible team of student researchers that included Trisha Loon, Kaylan Innes and Curtis Dobson. Their research findings helped build the community between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in their school and beyond.
Sam Mukwa Kloetstra is an Anishinaabe youth from Mattagami First Nation. Throughout high school, he has worked with the Ministry of Education’s Student as Researchers program to better understand how he can make his school a place First Nation, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) youth feel comfortable and safe in. He also sat on the Minister’s Student Advisory Council Cohort 5 where he gave his input on how Ontario’s education system can further benefit FNMI students in their studies. Sam now sits on the Premier’s Council on Youth Opportunity as well as many community councils and boards. He is currently living in Toronto where he has taken an active role in building the urban Indigenous community.
